Volunteer FAQ
What are you looking for in a volunteer?
While we are always accepting new volunteers, we have a special need for people who meet any of the following criteria:
- Speak both Spanish and English
- Speak both Vietnamese and English
- Have daytime availability
- Live in the Inland Empire
What kind of schedule must I have to be able to volunteer?
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Orange County and the Inland Empire does not require you to provide a set schedule to volunteer. However, we do ask that you are flexible when working with our wish families.
What do different Volunteers do?
The main areas of volunteerism are: Wish Granting, Events, Community Outreach projects, Administration, and Special Projects. For more detailed information, please go to Ways to Get Involved.
What is a Wish Granter?
Wish Granters, working in teams of two, attend to the details of granting a wish. They work directly with children to ascertain and plan wishes, and work creatively to seek in-kind goods and services to implement the wish. The nature of each childs wish determines the level of the Wish Granters involvement. Wish Granters must be at least 18 years old.
How do I become a volunteer?
Please view Steps to Volunteering.
Why do you need to know my background?
Because we, Make-A-Wish Foundation of Orange County and the Inland Empire, work so closely with children we perform a criminal background check through the Department of Justice of California. We are most concerned with any criminal history in regards to child abuse and/or fraud. All information received from these reports will remain confidential and be used only for screening and placement purposes.
